A crown (sometimes known as a cap) is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth.

Crowns are an ideal restoration to strengthen teeth that have been broken, or have been weakened by decay or a very large filling. They can be made of porcelain or gold or a combination of these materials.  A dental crown could be used for a number of other reasons, for including improving the appearance of a discoloured or filled tooth.

If you have an old or unsightly crown did you know that it can be replaced using some of the most recent materials available to give you a new crown that looks natural and mimics your own teeth.
At New town Dental Care we use state of the art materials and techniques with the most advanced laboratories to provide a crown which will give the tooth the best possible prognosis and appearance. We work very closely with the technician to design the shape, shade and design of the crown.

After full discussion and planning for crown work with you the tooth is prepared under magnification to the correct shape for a crown.  Accurate impressions or scans are taken and transferred to the laboratory where the final crown is fabricated. A provisional crown is constructed for the tooth at the preparation appointment, which is worn during crown fabrication.   Once the crown has been constructed the crown is trial fitted for your approval before being permanently cemented in place.
